Anyone who is comfortable working with ladders, drills, and basic electrical wiring can install an opener with ease. In this article, we will outline the steps necessary to performing a successful installation.

Step 1 – Once you’ve found your opener, take a minute to inspect your garage area. Make sure you will be able to fasten all necessary parts where they should be located, and clear any debris in the way.

Step 2 – Open up the box that the opener came in and remove all parts. Make sure your opener came with all necessary parts and instructions.

Step 3 – Put together your rail and be sure to insert the end into your power unit.

Step 4 – The traveler unit should be placed onto the rail. Once this is accomplished the idler pulley must be fixed, located on the opposite side.

Step 5 – Attach the traveler to the chain, and wrap it around the power unit drive wheels. Then loops the chain back around the idler pulley, to the traveler, creating a loop. Use a retaining clip to attach the ends together.

Step 6 – Find the center of the ceiling area and decide whether a mounting board will be necessary for the for the header bracket. Header brackets require solid support. If you have any doubts, you may want to go this route.

Step 7 – The header must be mounted at the height specified by the manufacturer, after which the idler assembly can be attached.

Step 8 – The power unit will then need to be lifted above the rails and held in place.
Fasten the unit to the joists on the ceiling.

Step 9 – Once the unit is secured, manually lift the door to make certain the unit is not obstructing the movement of the door. If you notice interference, raise the power unit.

Step 10 – Attach linkage to the traveler.

Step 11 – Attach and center the door bracket to the location outlined by the instruction manual.

Step 12 – Mount your control panel to a wall inside the garage and run the wires to the power unit. Secure the wires to the wall by staples, making certain not to pierce them.

Step 13 – Run the power cord from the power unit to a power supply.

Step 14 – If your opener has sensors, install them as per the instruction manual.

An Organizational Makeover For Your Home Repair Supplies

Whether you are a proficient do-it-yourself handyman or just need to make the occasional home repair, it’s important to keep your tools and home repair supplies organized and in good order. By storing your tools and supplies properly, you’ll have the peace of mind of knowing that you’ll be able to find them quickly when you have a job to do. Additionally, proper storage of tools and supplies is important to prevent them from becoming damaged. If your home repair supplies could benefit from an organizational makeover, here are a few storage tips that can help.

Organizing Small Hand Tools
Small hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches and pliers can sometimes be difficult to keep organized. If you are constantly digging through a box or pile of tools to find just the right one, it’s time to get them better organized. For everyday tools which are used for a variety of home repair jobs, hanging them on a pegboard can be a great way to keep them organized. However, for tools and supplies that are more specialized, organizing them into separate task-specific toolboxes can be helpful. For example, having a separate plumbing repair or electrical repair toolbox will make it easy to quickly grab all the tools you need for a specific job.

Power Tool Storage Safety
If you have a collection of hand-held power tools, it’s important to store them carefully to prevent damage. A workshop cabinet or shelving unit can make quick work of keeping these tools organized. Storing each power tool in its own basket or container along with its cords, accessories and attachments can go a long way towards staying organized and safe. It’s also important to keep power tools in good repair, such as keeping up on regular maintenance.
Working with improperly sharpened tools or those which have not been adequately lubricated can make using them more difficult, in addition to creating an unsafe situation. As an added bonus, keeping your tools well-maintained will also help them last longer.

Nails, Screws, and Other Small Items
Keeping nails, screws, nuts, bolts and other small home repair accessories organized can often be quite challenging. Small multi-compartment drawer sets, plastic bins, or a collection of boxes with lids can all work well for these small items. Even if you use clear containers that allow you to see the contents, it’s a good idea to label everything carefully. That way, you’ll immediately be able to grab the correct size or length of screw, nail, nut or bolt. Although glass baby food jars are frequently used to organize these items, it is best to avoid glass containers for the sake of safety.

Tool Belts or Aprons
Using a tool belt or apron is often one of the best ways of keeping items close at hand while performing a home repair. In some cases, you might prefer to have separate tool belts for each kind of home repair job. By using this method, you’ll be able to quickly grab your belt and go, without the need to swap tools.
